Biography

Michele Lewane has been representing injured workers against insurance companies since 1990. She limits her practice to workers’ compensation. Michele is the lead attorney in workers’ compensation matters at Injured Workers’ Law Firm. After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, she graduated in the top of her class from the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law in 1989. Immediately following law school, she clerked for the State Court of Appeals, gaining extensive experience and insight into workers’ compensation matters by researching and drafting opinions on the technical aspects of this area of law. Michele began practicing law in 1990. In 2007, she created Injured Workers’ Law Firm to help injured workers exclusively with their workers’ compensation needs. Be sure to visit injuredworkerslawfirm.com for a lot of useful information. Michele has lectured and written about various areas of the law, including workers’ compensation seminars for other lawyers. She is a member of many professional organizations, including the Virginia Trial Lawyers’ Association and Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group. Michele is a native of Richmond, with deep connections in this community.

  • Contingent Fees
If I assist you in getting your workers' compensation award, the Commission will award an attorney fee between $200.00- $500.00. I NEVER request a fee for doing this but the Commission may enter an Order requiring you to pay this fee. If I go to hearing on your behalf, I DO request a fee. Usually, it is twenty percent of the lost wages you are claiming or about $750.00. If I assist you in getting permanent partial disability benefits, the Commission usually awards an attorney fee of fifteen percent of the benefits. If I assist you in settling your workers' compensation claim, the Commission usually awards an attorney fee of twenty percent of the lump sum. Potentially, I could get paid all four ways or not at all. I would not get paid at all if we were attempting to settle your workers' compensation claim and the insurance company refused to settle for a fair price.
