Ava (Na) Li
10+ yrs U.S.–China Attorney & Tech Consultants | IP, Immigration, Estate Law
I’m Ava (Na) Li, founder of Ava Li Law PLLC, licensed to practice law in both China and the United States.
Before coming to the U.S., I practiced in Beijing, where I served on the legal team for the 2008 Olympic Games and led the successful trademark defense of the “Water Cube.” That case taught me something lasting: intellectual property is part of a brand’s soul.
In 2012, I moved to the U.S. to pursue an LL.M. in International Intellectual Property Law at Chicago-Kent College of Law, one of the nation’s top IP programs. I graduated with honors and later earned my J.D. from South Texas College of Law Houston in 2017, known for its nationally ranked advocacy program. There, I came to believe that a good lawyer should advocate for the unheard.
Over the years, I worked with tech companies, law firms, and a municipal court in Texas, gaining a practical understanding of how law shapes daily life. These experiences laid the foundation for what I do now: protecting creators, innovators, and families through trademark, copyright, business and family immigration (EB-1A, EB-1B, EB-1C, NIW, O-1, L-1, H-1B, marriage-based), and estate planning.
In 2019, I was invited to rejoin the legal team for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, advising on intellectual property and entertainment law. In 2020, when the pandemic struck my hometown in Hubei, I returned to writing—for heal and hope. My story The Gift of the Nine-Headed Phoenix was published in UIowa Horizon. Writing reminded me that a good lawyer is a good storyteller.
One day, a reader—an exceptional software engineer—said to me:
“A good lawyer makes stories come true.”
I smiled. “Would you like to be part of that story?”
He said, “Deal.”
That’s how our story began. Founded in 2021, Ava Li Law PLLC stands for professionalism, creativity, compassion, and balance.
We’re attorneys and tech consultants, specializing in trademark, copyright, immigration, and estate planning. And our story continues.
