Biography

Bill Cherbonnier is a New Orleans native and a graduate of Jesuit High School and Tulane University Law School. He grew up on the West Bank and currently lives on the East Bank, and has offices on both sides of the river. His law practice includes all of South Louisiana and employs the latest technology to communicate with clients. Most initial consultations are conducted by telephone and are usually free.

Bill is a trial lawyer who has represented plaintiff personal injury claimants, insurance company defendants, and an occasional alleged felon. He believes that the middle class in America is the forgotten class, and his office strives to provide superior legal services at reasonable and affordable rates. Bill has three times been awarded the New Orleans Pro Bono Project’s Distinguished Service Award for his representation of indigent consumers, and in 2017 he was honored with the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award.

Following Hurricane Katrina, Bill was appointed Louisiana State Chair of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) and served in that position for nine years.

He has also served as an officer of the LSBA’s Consumer Law Section and as a member of the Legislation Committee. He is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, the Louisiana Association for Justice (formerly the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association), the American Bankruptcy Institute, the American Bar Association, and the New Orleans and Jefferson Parish Bar Associations.

Bill has taught at numerous Continuing Legal Education programs sponsored by the LSBA, the Loyola University School of Law, the New Orleans Federal Bar Association, the LAFJ, and the Jefferson Bar Association. At the national level, he has lectured on legislative lobbying and homestead exemption reform at NACBA’s national convention in Los Angeles and on the debt settlement industry at NACBA’s national attorney workshop in Amelia Island.
