Carlos G. Quintana
I grew up in an immigrant family, experiencing the challenges and complexities of the immigration process firsthand. My parents moved to the United States seeking a better life, instilling in me a deep appreciation for the opportunities that U.S. citizenship provides. Driven by a desire to contribute to the community that fostered my success, I became the first in my family to attend university, graduating *summa cum laude* from the University of New Mexico.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I dedicated myself to education, teaching in the bilingual school system in Madrid, Spain. Upon returning to the United States, I pursued my legal education at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City’s Greenwich Village, where I was named a Public Service Scholar. During law school, I was deeply involved in advocacy efforts, participating in the Unemployment Action Project to assist those denied unemployment benefits. I also interned and volunteered with Catholic Charities Immigration Services for the Archdiocese of New York in Manhattan, the Brooklyn Family Defense Project, and served as a judicial intern for the Hon. Gloria Sosa-Lintner in the New York County Family Court in Manhattan.
Furthering my commitment to immigrant rights, I was part of the Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic, focusing on the intersection of immigration and criminal law (*crimmigration*). After earning my law degree, I completed a post-graduate fellowship at Catholic Charities Immigration and Refugee Services and volunteered with Essex-Newark Legal Services’ Family Law Unit, where I advocated for victims of domestic violence in divorce proceedings.
I am admitted to practice law in the States of New York, New Jersey, and Texas.
