Mark J. Welter was born and raised in Yankton, South Dakota; and Mark has lived in South Dakota his whole life. Mark earned a business degree at the University of South Dakota, and his law degree at the University of South Dakota School of Law.
Mark then worked two years as a law clerk for John B. Jones, U.S. District Judge, District South Dakota, Southern Division. Mark then worked for 15 years as an insurance defense personal injury trial lawyer and worker’s compensation lawyer for Woods, Fuller, Schultz & Smith P.C. in Sioux Falls, defending clients against legal claims for damages.
Since 2004 Mark has been a partner at Wilka, Welter & Ash, LLP, helping personal injury and work injury victims recover legal compensation from those legally responsible.
Mark brings with him the knowledge, skill and experience of having counselled and represented insurance companies, and now helping injury victims recover the compensation to which they are legally entitled. In Mark’s 30+ year trial practice, Mark has litigated over 1,000 damages claims, and handled many trials and appeals.
Mark is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota State Bar Negligence and Tort Law committee, and the Minnehaha County Bar Association. Mark has also been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals (8th Circuit), the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. District Court (District of South Dakota).
