32 Questions Answered
- Q. Employer accidentally sent my credit report to another applicant in MA. Is this illegal?
- A: I would contact a consumer protection attorney familiar with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. There could be a claim for impermissible purpose under the FCRA. Additionally, I might recommend freezing your credit to ensure someone else can't use your information to take out any loans in your name. Also make sure to keep any and all proof that you have that this report was sent to the unauthorized third party. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
- Q. Seeking legal help in WI to recover losses from an online scam.
- A: I would contact a WI consumer protection attorney. Many of us will offer a free consultation to review the facts. It's tough to get a full picture based on the facts presented (i.e. the full details of the online scam and how the funds were transferred) but I would give a WI consumer protection a call to review. As stated, there's a chance that the situation could fall within the Fair Credit Billing Act or the Electronic Funds Transfer Act but tough to determine without some more facts.
- Q. Help with identity theft affecting finances in Louisiana.
- A: I would consult with a consumer protection attorney immediately. Make sure to keep track of everything that has happened and everything that you've attempted to do to mitigate the identity theft thus far for the attorney to review. The attorney will likely want to review everything, along with the police report(s) and/or bank disputes. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns but I would contact one of us Justia consumer protection attorneys to review the situation.
