Biography

I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Philosophy from TCU and later from Harvard Law School in 1965. Since becoming a member of the State Bar of California in 1966, I have operated my own law firm focusing on general business, estates, probate, and trusts. In 1996 I received my first mediation certificate from Pepperdine Straus Institute and, in 2004 after training with Dr. Robert Cialdini, I became the only attorney certified to conduct his principles of persuasion workshops. I have presented numerous one hour presentations for lawyers, bar associations and business organizations

Since 1996, I have been actively engaged in providing mediation services for probate and commercial disputes. In 2013, I founded the Mediation Center of Los Angeles, a 501(c) nonprofit, and have served as its president since its inception. In 2018, I began utilizing Zoom for mediations, and that same year, MCLA was the only organization awarded a contract with the LA Superior Court to provide online mediations.

In 2023, we received a new Referral Contract with the LA Superior Court, under which the judges of LASC have referred almost 1500 cases to date. MCLA offers substantially reduced fees with highly qualified and experienced lawyer mediators, resulting in a significant number of cases being assigned to our 25 mediators. Our mission is to increase access to justice and reduce the burden on the courts by settling hundreds of civil cases without trial.

I have maintained an AV rating for many years and have received numerous awards for my contributions to training lawyers and mediators. I am well respected by the probate community for my work as mediator and court appointed trustee and conservator in numerous conflicted cases.

MCLA is a certified MCLE provider. I will teach lawyers and mediators about improving outcomes in settlementsusing new data from our large database.
