Peter A Holland
The Holland Law Firm, P.C.Peter is recognized as a national authority on consumer protection law, with a special emphasis on debt buyer lawsuits. He teaches consumer law at the University of Maryland law school, and is a frequent lecturer at state and national consumer protection conferences. He is regularly sought out by other lawyers for mentoring, advice and counsel, and he has been co-counsel in class action lawsuits resulting in the dismissal of thousands of lawsuits filed by debt buyers and by automobile finance companies. Peter discussed collection abuse and harassment as a featured panelist at the “Life of a Debt: Data Integrity in Debt Collection” joint FTC-CFPB roundtable, and on the Diane Rehm Show here (“New Concerns Over Credit Card Debt Collection”) and here (“Inside America’s Debt Collection Industry”). He has been quoted in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the American Banker, the Baltimore Sun, and Maryland’s Daily Record and other major media outlets. From 2009-2014, Peter also served as the Director of the Consumer Protection Clinic at the University of Maryland School of Law, where he taught courses in Consumer Law, represented consumers in court, and trained law students and lawyers how to defend credit card, medical bill, and car loan lawsuits filed by banks and debt buyers. Peter is the author of some of the leading articles on debt buyers, including “Debt-Buyer Lawsuits and Inaccurate Data” in the the Boston Fed’s Communities and Banking magazine, “Defending Junk Debt Buyer Lawsuits” in the Clearinghouse Review, “Junk Justice: A Statistical Analysis of 4,400 Lawsuits Filed by Debt Buyers” in the Loyola Consumer Law Review, and “The One Hundred Billion Dollar Problem in Small Claims Courts: Robo-Signing and Lack of Proof in Debt Buyer Cases” published in the Journal of Business and Technology Law.
