Attorney Rankin’s focus in his firm is representing employees involved in disputes with their employers. Mr. Rankin’s experience as a litigator representing only employees provides him insight and perception, allowing him to anticipate and defeat common strategies and ploys used by employers. He has substantial experience in resolving employment law disputes, including pre-litigation resolution, state and federal litigation, mediation, and negotiating severance agreements.

Mr. Rankin is an active member of the California Employment Lawyers Association, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the Consumer Attorneys of California. He is admitted to the California State Bar and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Born in Kentucky, Mr. Rankin was raised in a suburb of Richmond, Virginia and received his Bachelor’s Degree, with honors, from James Madison University. After too many cold winters, Robert decided to move west to sunny southern California, where he attended law school. In his spare time, Robert enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, and surfing. He is also devoted to multiple animal welfare charities around the world.

Q. If i had a stroke which resulted in a brain anurism, can i get compensation from the company?
A: You may have a valid workers' compensation claim, but you may also have other remedies for what has happened to you. However, it is impossible to provide an informative answer with the information you have provided here. I would recommend calling a workers' compensation attorney and also an attorney that handles employment discrimination cases (or one that handles both) so that you get solid answers to your questions. Good luck to you.
Q. I'm going through Work Comp now to deal with my carpal tunnel. I have had visits w/ a Dr. prior trying to avoid WC.
A: It is somewhat difficult to provide a complete answer without knowing more detail. But, generally speaking, prior medicals may be relevant to demonstrate a pre-existing condition, to prove that the injury is non-industrial, and they also may be helpful to your case, depending on how long you have been with your employer. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a progressive injury and must be pled as such. You have a right to obtain self-procured medical treatment under certain circumstances, but if your employer is not aware of your injury, then it is tougher to argue that they are obligated to provide you benefits. You would be well-advised to call an attorney that handles these types of cases, at least to discuss your options. Best of luck. ... Read More
