Originally a double science pre-med major at the state university, I am a Certified Legal specialist in California workers' compensation practicing in Mendocino county in northern California. I have an office in Point Arena California and regularly appear before the Santa Rosa WCAB.

I started my legal career working for the Alternate Defense Office of the Fresno County Public Defender representing criminal defendants, before I switched to workers compensation defense, and finally to an applicant practice in 2004. From 2010 until 2014 I represented approximately 24% of all NBA claims in California. I have conducted in person trials in multiple venues, including tribal cases.

Q. Injured at work, seeking advice on hiring a lawyer for workers' compensation.

A: Go to the California Applicant Attorney Association or your local county bar for a list of attorneys practicing California workers compensation. At present you have two separate injuries and your case will be complicated by the fact that you did not file a claim form (DWC-1) in the first claim. It appears the employer does have notice of the second injury.

A: 1) Contact your attorney.

You say you resolved your case including a payout plus retroactive TTD. The court by default gives defendants 30 days to pay an award. After 30 days you are entitled to penalties and interest.

Cash the checks.

WC payments are tax fee, not the income you used to calculate your entitlement to benefits
