Sogand Zamani
Experience. Compassion. Results.
Sogand Zamani represents individuals in truly all aspects of domestic relations law, helping individuals separate and divorce from their partners in a dignified, practical manner and advocating for individuals seeking to form families through adoption or assisted reproductive technology (ART).
Family Law (Custody/Divorce). A significant portion of Sogand’s practice is devoted to representing individuals and families in custody, divorce, paternity and domestic violence actions from negotiation to litigation through trial. She also has deep experience working with international clients based in Maryland or Washington, D.C., whose cases often present complex jurisdictional and cultural questions. She is also regularly called upon as a trusted advisor to negotiate premarital agreements to protect important, complex assets before marriage. Sogand is an experienced and skilled mediator and Collaborative law practitioner, and is also appointed Guardian ad litem (best interest attorney) by the courts to represent the best interests of minor children in litigation. When out of court dispute resolution does not bring resolution to a case, she is equal to the task of strongly advocating on behalf of her clients in court.
Family formation (Adoption/Assisted Reproductive Technology). For over a decade, Sogand has enjoyed working with adoptive parents, birth parents, and intended parents, including LGBTQ individuals, in independent or agency adoptions, foster parent and step-parent adoptions, break the seal petitions, other related proceedings and in using ART to form families. As part of her ART practice, she advocates for and represents individuals and couples seeking to engage gestational carriers (surrogates) and utilize donor egg and/or embryos arrangements to create or expand their family in reviewing and preparing agreements, coordinating services, and obtaining parentage orders.
Sogand practices law throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia.
