After graduating from The Ohio State Law School and working two years at a mid-sized law firm, Chris, his wife Susan and their infant daughter decided to move to Wilmington, North Carolina to be near the beach (and warmer, less snowy weather).

During college, Christian worked as a wildland firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management in the summers.
