Nolia G Batey
Trial Attorney; General Counsel; Entrepreneur; Consultant and Advisor
I am an attorney partner at a firm serving Louisville, KY. I am foremost a trial attorney and I concentrate my practice in the areas of personal injury, high asset divorces, and business disputes. I also represent numerous small businesses (for profit and non-profit) as outside general counsel.
I care deeply about the status of animal law in Kentucky and am the Immediate Past Chair of the Animal Law Section of the Kentucky Bar Association. I am also an active member of the Kentucky Justice Association, the American, Kentucky, and Louisville Bar Associations.
I received an LL.M in Animal Law from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College; a J.D. from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law; and a BA from Western Kentucky University. During law school I worked for Churchill Downs, Inc. in their legal/compliance department and for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service Small Business/Self-Employed Division.
When I'm not lawyering, I'm playing pickleball or in my backyard vegetable garden with my three rescue dogs and rescue cat.

- Nolia presented at the 5th Annual International Animal Law Summit where she served as Kentucky’s delegate, along with Megan Engle Rosen, and spoke to the summit about the state of animal law in Kentucky. Delegates included experienced attorneys, prosecutors, judges and industry leaders who have in-depth knowledge of animal law and are selected based upon their understanding of the substantive law, emerging trends, and their experience within the industry. The two day education and networking summit connects animal law practitioners from around the globe. Topics discussed included updates on national and international judicial, administrative, or legislative legal changes relative to animal law. Over 30 delegates from states and countries are present, as well as leaders from the American Bar Association, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. This conference brought together a vast cross section of professionals and advocates together in one place, for vital education and best practices to protect animals and humans nationwide.

- The Animal Law Summit draws speakers from jurisdictions throughout the world. Each year, “delegates” (animal law bar section members, committee or an animal law expert from the region) present “hot topics” in their jurisdiction over the past year. The delegate selects major issues, judicial or legislative changes that signal a new trend, is an issue of first impression, or a unique fact that is likely to recur. The Summit provides for a true collaborative, cross-jurisdictional, up-to-date animal law educational experience.

- Q. Does my dog need water and food 24/7
- A: I don't think I understand your question. Can you elaborate a little?
- Q. How much could i possible get if I can no longer walk stand stoop crawl etc.only sit down work for knee injury. Replace
- A: I notice that your location says "Indianapolis, Indiana" but you've posted your question in a Kentucky forum. Workers' compensation laws vary widely based on the state you are in. I highly suggest you consult with an Indiana attorney about your case. You might be able to find a workers' compensation attorney who will offer you a free consultation. Most personal injury attorneys do this. Good luck!
- Q. Where can I find all relevant laws for dog shelters in Kentucky? Compliance and compacity are my main concerns.
- A: Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) Chapter 258 might answer some of your questions. Right now this weblink works:
