Shahzeen Karim
Managing Partner and Attorney at Hafey & Karim
Shahzeen Karim is an accomplished litigator, well-known for her fervent support of her clients and her authoritative presence in courtrooms.
Her deep experience in immigration law and her passion for impactful advocacy shape her proactive approach to legal practice. Her journey began in Chicago, where Shahzeen made her mark by handling various criminal cases, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, in the courts of Cook County.
Upon her move to Texas, Shahzeen honed her focus on immigration law. She initially worked with family-related immigration cases, helping clients with VAWA benefits, U Visas, hardship waivers, adjustment of status, and naturalization processes.
Subsequently, she transitioned to business immigration, where she adeptly secured work authorizations and employment visas for numerous employees via PERM Labor Certification applications, immigrant petitions, and permanent residence applications both domestically and at U.S. consulates globally.
An opportunity arose for Shahzeen to join the Department of Homeland Security in San Francisco, but she chose to continue her advocacy for asylum seekers in removal proceedings at a leading defense firm in San Francisco, where she collaborated with her colleague Ryan. Although Shahzeen is currently based in Dallas, she continues her client representation in California alongside her partner.
She holds her license in Illinois and has been part of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2016. Shahzeen earned her Juris Doctorate from DePaul University, following her graduation with honors from the University of Illinois-Chicago, where she double-majored in Criminal Justice and Philosophy.
Her extensive experience and strategic prowess have led to consistently successful outcomes in complicated cases before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration Court, and U.S. Department of State offices around the world.
